Yeah, it was really surprising. The music from your FM was very, very natural and organic (I'm not saying other mediums sounded bad, it was great, but there was more ease and naturalness with FM). Is FM noise working as some kind of dithe...

This is where I lose you, or rather, lose myself. I can see my inner self reacting to a given performance be it live or a reproduction, but as you say, it can happen with a table radio or a car stereo too. I can't seem to find a bridge be...

Jessie, that is hilarious! For many years I felt so cagey to know to look out for the "white label" and/or "demo" LPs that various record "Labels" sent out to radio stations/DJs, hoping for air time. In most cases they were "ringers", better in eve...
N-set, are you pretty sure that the "direct drive" tube amp need not be PP? Does the Stax amp have +/- typical RC output? Would it perhaps make more sense to "update" the Stax amp?ATH-50 cans would sure make your life easier......

Thanks for the link, this is even higher than the 192 kbps which is already the max for most stations.Only the the concerts which are aired via Radio 4 you will find on this site.Concerthuis (something like concert home) keeps the concerts online fo...

Perhaps a vintage tube radio with an auxiliary input or two? No DYI, a bit romantic, can have very good tone - especially if electrically cleaned up a bit.I have a pair of JBL LE8s that could very well be a solution for the bedroom....

It would be a monumental test of endurance to listen to this complete broadcast. I wish for more concert performances of Myaskovsky's music, broadcast on radio. However, I must try to listen at 10:00 PM. I have never heard the Gostelradio Quartet...

After all, you still can't beat a tube for radio transmission.I haven't yet come across a single transistor that can do 35Kw...

If I am not mistaken he records it with a few orchestras. I have Danish Radio, Munich and Stuttgart. In fact I think I have a box set with symphonies with Stuttgart. Which one you refer to?The Cat...

OK, I no longer keep my finger on the Arts Pulse here in (greater) San Diego; but the Bruckner thing has got to be worth a traffic jamb or two, even if it sounds pretty "quaint", at best. And how odd that I am advised of the event by an e-note from Bo...

Yesterday I was listening an broadcast from Netherlands over FM with Mariss Jansons leading Concertgebouw and Netherlands Radio Choir with Mahler’s Resurrection. The play was horrible, starting from playing of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and ending...

Thanks for the recommendation JD, Ill take a look into it. I just listened to Wand's play of the 3rd with Cologne Radio and it is quite good! Pretty much what I was looking for. Its packaged in a set so I think this is really the only way to listen...

Though it may be better than actually being in the Albert Hall if the weather remains as it is: it is so unbearably hot in there live radio is currently the only way. ...

I.e. seek "louder" as if they wear permanent ear-plugs
The record companies demand that sound engineers make the recordings so that the band sounds as loud (noticeable) as possible when played on the radio. Music recorded in...

Strange but I have found that my reception is significantly better if I don't use any connector between my antenna cable(radio shack RG whatever going up to rooftoop antenna) and my tuner but instead just strip off a bit of wire at the end of the cab...

There is a live performance of this on the radio this evening, Truls Mörk playing with the Orchestre de Paris, Eschenbach conducting. The interpretation has no life at all, plodding, almost pointless. It almost gives the impression of badly con...
I had a rehearsal for a church concert last night and as usual, sat in the church to "acclimate". I was alone at first and saw no mice running around to generate "noise". Still, there was a fundemental sound, or breathing of t...
It certainly shows my ignorance but I am surprised at the apparent market in Iran but still am pretty sure that it is a very small „privileged“ group of people participating. Practicing audio certainly can reflect the local „cultu...

The evening began with the luminous show From the Top (with Christopher Reilly), which features young classical performers from around th...

hi romy, yes, digital compression sucks and is the main reason hd radio sounds so sterile. the dildo analogy is quite appropriate, imo. but, if there's a station you enjoy that doesn't come in well, the xdr f1-hd does sound quite nice - if...

Allo Antonio,
I think for the UK it's 2012. Also, hHere in London the only classical station worth listening to if you ask me is BBC Radio 3. So a TU-X1 and Lavry would be something of an enormous investment all things considered. I'm fairly sure we...
Sometimes we have luck when we listen to a System and we can have the illusion of - more or less - pure music realism, but the majority of Systems are sophisticated hi-fi.Well, but let's be honest, can it be so difficult to creat...

Scott,
Unfortunately Bruno Walter is not my guy, and particularly on Richard Strauss and therefore I would not help you. However, I would suggest you to find a different, more productive venue to research performances after those “just heard” exper...

Last night I was returning from local production of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta. It was mean rain here in Boston and fragile Bostonians were hiding in their homes, it was 10PM and the roads were free. I was in mood for some kind of offensive drive – a ...

The main "technique" I use in "problem solving" involves a sort of Hegelian turning and re-turning of/to the object of attention (or, my perspective...) to get as many "views" of the object as possible. This sort of reflection has recently broug...
